Psychologist Advocates Sin

Cultures and societies that fail to maintain some sort of moral restraint in their behavior always experience a breakdown in that culture or society. This has been the case throughout human history. This fact certainly provides historical precedence against the view that sin is good for humanity.

The President’s Heart

Believers in Christ often find themselves in despair or discouraged at the prospect of the wrong candidate winning any elected office but ultimately the “wrong” person is not the wrong person because God appoints and He removes according to His sovereign will. If we see the person we don’t like win an election we find hope in the reality that God will direct the heart of the king to accomplish His divine purposes. This short article points us to this hope.

Reading Scripture for a Biblical Worldview: Psalm 16:11

“You make known to me the path of life;
   in your presence there is fullness of joy;
   at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

What does this verse say about God, Man and Knowledge (Revelation)?

 First, God has made known or revealed His covenant and through this covenant we find the path of life.

Second, this life in covenant with God and His people is an “already but not yet” reality and we get a glimpse and taste of the pleasures found in the Triune God alone and not in anything created.

Third, in the “not yet” these pleasures will ultimately be realized and experienced for all eternity.

Reading Scripture for a Biblical Worldview: Psalm 16:3

“As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,
   in whom is all my delight.”

What does this verse say about man?

Mankind, being created in the image of God, longs for companionship, community, and fellowship while busying himself with seeking these categories in the worldly attachments of a hurried life independent of a life with God and His people.  Believers should and must find delight and pleasure in being with God’s covenant people. We should prefer their company over the company and assembly of those that seek after worldly pleasures and indulgences.

Reading Scripture for a Biblical Worldview: Psalm 1: 1-2 Ethics/Law/Commandment

1 “Blessed is the man
   who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
   nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the lawof the LORD,
   and on his law he meditates day and night.”

 What does this verse say about ethics/law/commandment?

 These verses identify the blessed/happy/fulfilled  man:

  • The blessed man refuses to find solace and guidance in worldly minded counsel.
  • The blessed man refuses to keep himself in the path of worldly indulgence and idolatries.
  • The blessed man refuses to sit in the company of those who scoffingly reject God’s covenant and His covenant keepers.
  • The blessed man finds true pleasure in the Word of God and godly affections and this leads to a life of consistent meditation and the pondering of the things of God.

Two-Kingdoms Talk: “Christ & Culture Once More” by Michael Horton

Horton’s commentary is good primer on the “two-kingdoms or not two-kingdoms” debate. Here is a quote from the commentary:

 “The goal of the church as an institution is not cultural transformation, but preaching, teaching, baptizing, communing, praying, confessing, and sharing their inheritance in Christ. The church is a re-salinization plant, where the salt becomes salty each week, but the salt is scattered into the world.”
